Description:

Culver City’s downtown arts district is quickly becoming a destination for new galleries, with more than 15 opening here in the last few years. LAXART, operated by the area’s only nonprofit arts group, is a hub for the display of art, architecture, and design. The 1,800-square-foot gallery was designed on a tight $50,000 budget. zellnerplusassociates provided their services pro-bono- bringing the building up to code, replacing deteriorated walls, removing a drop ceiling and adding new interior partitions. LAXART is now contained in two large gallery spaces and an office that can be used for exhibitions. The galleries are designed for flexibility- providing space for public gatherings, lectures, and screenings. In addition to full-scale installations, video work, sound work, painting, photography, and architecture exhibitions, the gallery also displays art on its facade. A text piece by Los Angeles artist Daniel Joseph Martinez is currently featured on the exterior.
